Do you hold tryouts?
-No, ESFA Football is Open Sign ups and open to all, there are no cuts. ESFA is part of a very competitive league. Playing time is determined by skill level, team needs, behavior, and effort at practice. Before signing up, Prospective players and their families need to understand that Football takes a high level of dedication, hard work, and commitment to their team.
What ages do you accept?
-Our Tackle Football program is open to Players in grades 2-6! *1st graders may be eligble to play "Up" on the 2nd grade team.
Is your Football program Coed?
-Yes! ESFA welcomes all youth Athletes. Prospective players and their Families need to be aware and comfortable with the physical demands and dangers of playing contact sports.
Are Players expected to go to all games and practices?
-Yes. When a teammate is missing, it puts a strain on the rest of the team. Missing Practice can jeopardize playing time or position on the field.
My Child is participating in another Fall Sport, will there be a conflict?
-Possibly. ESFA encourages Players to participate in other sports during the offseason, to remain active, and advance their skill level. Focusing on Seasonal Sports helps avoid burnout. ESFA strongly encourages practice attendance so that players enter game days understanding their position and play for Safety reasons. Missing practice can result in missing game time, or limit position eligibility for your player. The ultimate decision is up to the head coach. Always communicate pre-scheduled absences with your coach.
When does the season start? What are practice days?
-Football practice will begin July 29th. Practices are 3 days a week from 6-8 pm. The Official Team Practice Schedule will be up to the head coach, and subject to change as the season progresses.
When are the games? How long is the season?
-Games will start the weekend before Labor Day and are on Saturdays. Teams are guaranteed 6 games, with up to 2 additional playoff games. The season will conclude by the end of October.
Where are games located? -ESFA is part of the WCYFL. Each town has a home field. Schedules vary each season. Games could be played at any host site: Home(ESHS), Richmond, Oak Grove, Odessa, Warrensburg, Pleasant Hill, Harrisonville, Holden, or Clinton.
Does ESFA provide transportation?
-No. Parents/Guardians are responsible for finding transportation for their players to and from games.
What is included in the Football Fees?
-Your Player will receive a Custom Game Jersey that is theirs to keep and will have use of our safety equipment. A portion of your fees goes to maintaining the equipment. ESFA is able to offer all safety equipment needed, lowering the out-of-pocket cost for you. The remainder goes to league fees including Insurance, and Referees.
What will my player need that ESFA does not Provide?
-Football Cleats
-Water bottle large enough to get through 2-hour practice and games
-Mouth Guard
If we do not live in Excelsior Springs, can my Child play for ESFA?
-Yes. The only children not eligible to play for ESFA are students in the Richmond School District, as Richmond Youth Football is also part of the WCYFL. Students from ESSD40 are encouraged to play for ESFA. Students from other surrounding towns are welcome. Home schooled children can play for the town of their choosing.
